Heron Hospitality Unveils Historic Office in Downtown New Bern

New Bern Office

NEW BERN, N.C. – Heron Hospitality, a leading North Carolina-based hospitality management firm, is proud to announce its latest renovation project in downtown New Bern. The company has now established its headquarters at the iconic Edward R. Stanly House, a strategic move that solidifies its position as a rising star in the hospitality industry across Eastern North Carolina and beyond.

The c. 1849 Edward R. Stanly House, located at 502 Pollock Street, is a prominent New Bern structure. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places since 1972, this three-story, 4,400 square foot Greek Revival home has been a cornerstone of the community for 175 years – serving at various times as a family home, architect’s office, clothing store, art gallery, and USO Center.

Heron Hospitality’s relocation to this distinguished address in December 2023 signifies their commitment to preserving New Bern’s rich heritage while ushering in a new era of prosperity. The extensive renovation, which was completed in February 2024, included updates such as new flooring for the upper floors, upgraded bathroom facilities, enhanced office technology infrastructure, smart lock installation, and bolstered safety measures.

“At Heron Hospitality, we believe in more than just managing properties; we strive to create memorable and welcoming spaces that honor the legacy of our communities,” said Charles Cushman, Chief Executive Officer of Heron Hospitality. “The Edward R. Stanly House represents a significant opportunity to breathe new life into a cherished landmark, revitalizing it as a hub for business and community engagement.”

Located a mere block from New Bern’s picturesque Middle Street, the Edward R. Stanly House was an ideal place for co-founders and New Bern residents, Charles Cushman and Gary Curry, to invest in their city’s historic district. Formerly owned and lovingly managed for decades by architect Bobby Stephens, the property became available after his passing in 2022 at the age of 96. Heron Hospitality now occupies the first floor, joined by esteemed tenants including Charlie Benson of Benson Wealth Partners on the second floor, and attorney Zack Taylor of Manning Fulton on the third.

This project aligns seamlessly with Heron Hospitality’s overarching mission to preserve and enhance historic properties throughout the Carolinas. It follows the company’s successful track record of breathing new life into beloved landmarks, building up to the forthcoming opening of New Bern’s first boutique hotel, The Harvey, in April – which is located just a few blocks away.

Founded in 2016, Heron Hospitality is a trusted leader in property management and revitalization, boasting a diverse portfolio across the Carolinas. Renowned for its industry expertise and strategic approach, the company offers a comprehensive suite of services including hotel valuation and acquisition, ownership consulting, branding, property development, and planning.
